Career Goal: How to Choose the Right Course?

Are you still struggling to decide which course to study?

This article aims to help you choose the perfect course to achieve your objectives and career goals.

1. Decide what interests you

Prepare a list of the fields of study that you’re interested in and a list of courses you’d consider taking based on those interests.

2. Ask yourself why you want to study

       a. If you want to start a career or gain a qualification;
              i. Identify the skill sets and experience you currently have
              ii. List down the subject areas you’re passionate about or relevant to your goals
       b. If you want to get promoted;
              i. Think about the knowledge gaps between where you are now and where you want to be
              ii. List down the skill sets you are missing to achieve your career goals
              iii. Prepare a list of courses matching your career goals

3. Decide on your course duration

Are you willing to study on a full-time basis or part-time basis? Determine the length of your course to ensure that you can be dedicated to your study. Be certain that you will be able to balance your other responsibilities in parallel to your studies.

4. Narrow down your options

Once you’ve gathered all details, it’s time to narrow down your choices to four or five courses. Based on your study and the views of your parents and peers, you should list the benefits and drawbacks of each course.

5. Assess if you are eligible

Acceptance into competitive courses, especially those in high demand, is more challenging. This is a clear indicator of whether or not you are capable of doing well in the course.
